The Homes for Wandsworth programme reached a significant milestone as work has officially started on two new sites.
Wandsworth Council’s programme aims to deliver over 1,000 new council-rent homes across the borough, including homes for older residents looking to downsize, bigger family homes for those currently in overcrowded accommodation, wheelchair-accessible homes, and homes for those with additional needs.
The two new sites on the Platt Estates and Putney Vale Estate will deliver 26 new homes across three sites. All of the homes in the programme are built to be as efficient as possible from the outset, ensuring minimal environmental impact and low residents’ bills.
Alongside the new homes, each site will also bring forward landscape and environmental improvements, including bicycle storage facilities, improvements to refuse collection and, as part of the Platt Estates project, a new children’s play area.
Aydin Dikerdem, the cabinet member for housing, visited the sites to launch each project officially. He said:
“We are building new council rent homes across the borough, and small sites like this are a vital part of the Homes for Wandsworth programme, delivering quality homes on compact plots of land. Every new home built is a fresh start for a family and helps to reduce council housing waiting lists.
“Not only that, but every development will also deliver improvements to the local area with, for example, new landscaping, play areas and community facilities.”
