UKPF does the World Cup!
Dinner will involve a panel discussion with past Liverpool, Everton and Manchester United football heroes and compered by John Keith who is the presenter of the weekly talk show “Strictly John Keith” on City Talk which features guests from sport, media and show biz. I am also Merseyside football correspondent for Ireland’s national radio and TV service RTE
We are pleased to announce the line up for the dinner which included three famous ex-footballers and a Manager from the North West.
David Fairclough now works as a pundit and also on the after-dinner circuit, he also writes a weekly column on the official Liverpool Football Club web-site. David is still a firm favourite amongst the Anfield faithful and was voted in at No.18 on the 2006 poll 100 Players Who Shook The Kop. The poll was conducted by the Reds official web-site, 110,000 supporters worldwide took part listing their favourite 10 Liverpool players of all-time. Ironically, David’s 18th place was higher than John Toshack’s 34th and David Johnson’s 77th positions, two of the players that prevented David from gaining more Liverpool appearances.
Howard Kendall is a former English footballer and Everton FC manager. He is most famous for his connection to Everton, a club that he both played for and managed. He also played for Preston North End, Stoke City, Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers and managed Athletic Bilbao,Manchester City, Xanthi, Notts County, Sheffield United and Ethnikos Piraeus. His uncle Harry Taylor played for Newcastle United and Fulham in the 1950s.
Arthur Albiston joined Manchester United as an apprentice in July 1972, turning professional in July 1974. He made his debut in a League Cup Third Round match against local rivals Manchester City in 1974. He made 485 appearances in 14 years, playing at left back, and scored six goals. He helped the club win the FA Cup in 1977, 1983 and 1985.
In his professional career, he made 464 appearances and scored seven goals. He also later joined non-League sides Sittingbourne, Witton Albion and Droylsden. Albiston also earned 14 caps for Scotland, making his debut on 28 April 1982 against Northern Ireland. His total includes one game at the 1986 FIFA World Cup, a 0–0 draw against Uruguay on 13 June 1986.
Following his retirement from playing, Albiston managed Droylsden (1996–97), was a junior coach at Manchester United (2000–04) and has also worked as a radio summariser for Manchester Independent. He currently works for MUTV, Manchester United’s official television channel, acting as match summariser during live coverage of the club’s reserve and academy teams.
John Keith, author, broadcaster and stage presenter, has covered football since the 1960s and has written more than 30 books, including biographies of Dixie Dean, Bill Shankly, Colin Harvey, Billy Liddell, Ian Callaghan, and collaborated with Kevin Sheedy on his just published autobiography .
John’s acclaimed official biography of Bob Paisley, released in 1999, has been revised and updated and re-published this summer to mark the 40th anniversary of Paisley succeeding Bill Shankly as Liverpool manager . After more than 30 years as a Daily Express staff sportswriter John is now Merseyside football correspondent for Ireland’s national broadcasting service RTE.
Following a decade as host of BBC Radio Merseyside’s Saturday Football Phone-In he was invited to present his own chat show Strictly John Keith on City Talk 105.9, which is broadcast three times a week featuring personalities from sport, entertainment and the media, his guests including Kenny Dalglish, Howard Kendall and Ken Dodd.
John is also producer and presenter of football stage shows The Bill Shankly Story and The Dixie Dean Story, which have been performed since 2006 and 2008 respectively. His latest show, Bob Paisley: Reluctant Genius, opens at New Brighton Floral Pavilion in September 2014 featuring several Liverpool FC legends live on stage.
