Normally Solar PV panels are classed as permitted development and in the case of listed or historic buildings, planning permission is required.

However, Brunel University London has now received permission from Hillingdon Council (Central and South Planning Committee 5th August 2020) to install Solar PV on the Halsey building which forms part of the Quad at the university. The Quad North building comprises of three storeys and built in 1971 is an example of brutalist architectural design.

The installation of the PV panels will generate more electricity than the building requires providing an extra 123,700 kWh for the rest of the university. This will not only have a positive environmental impact by reducing carbon emissions but will reduce the day to day running costs.
