Plans for a massive shopping centre in Slough have been ditched for a mixed use business district of up to 3.5 million sq ft.
Property Week has reported that British Land has scrapped the plan to redevelop the Queensmere and Observatory shopping centres which are owned by the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).
The new proposal includes 2m sq ft of office space and between 2,000 and 2,500 Build-to-Rent flats but plans for 1m sq ft of retail and leisure have been scaled back to between 250,000 sq ft and 500,000 sq ft according to Property Week.
A masterplan has been produced by British Land, which was appointed development partner last year, and a planning application to Slough Borough Council is expected this year.
British Land hopes to gain planning permission ‘by Q2 2022 but preferably earlier’, according to the report.
