Revised plans for Newbury’s Eagle Quarter go before councillors on Thursday (October 2) with a recommendation for approval.
West Berkshire Council’s western area planning committee will sit for an extraordinary meeting to decide the long-fought-over proposals by Lochailort to develop the ailing Kennet Centre.
The current plans are for full planning permission for:
- 427 Build-to-Rent flats (from studios to three-bedroom) in nine blocks, ranging in height from two – seven storeys.
- 3,117 sq m of Class E space intended for independent and artisan businesses
- The retention of 8,186 sq m of space which includes the exiting Vue Cinema and restaurants
- 632 cycle parking spaces
- 53 EV charging points
- A new pedestrian link to the railway station and Market Place
Council officers have recommended approval as long as a s106 agreement is completed within three months (or longer if agreed).
The previous scheme, submitted in two applications, was refused by the council in 2022 and subsequent appeals were later withdrawn.
