Consultation has begun over how to improve a key route between St Albans City station and city centre.
Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) and St Albans City and District Council began the six-week engagement on October 1 and events will take place throughout the month.
The councils want to make Victoria Street more sustainable, safe and vibrant to support businesses and tourism.
Improvements could include plants, trees, street furniture, signage and wayfinding, artwork and storytelling features, wider pavements, protected cycle lanes, cycle parking, better bus stops and accessibility measures.
Rupert Thacker, HCC’s director of transport for Hertfordshire, said: “This project represents an exciting opportunity for St Albans residents to be involved and help shape future plans for Victoria Street right from the start.
“Our aim is to offer all residents a cleaner, greener, healthier Hertfordshire. Your input through this survey will help us understand what people like already and where there are areas that need to be improved, to make this important street a safe and sustainable place to live, travel, and access services.”
Chris Traill, strategic director for community and place delivery for St Albans City and District Council, said: “This is a fabulous opportunity for people to put forward their own ideas about how their neighbourhood can be improved. We’re asking them to look into the future and let us know how Victoria Street should evolve.
“Would you like to see a cycle lane, for example, as active travel is likely to become more common? Or perhaps you feel there is scope for more trees which would help efforts to tackle climate change. Whatever views you have, please take part in the consultation so we can create a Victoria Street that is responsive to people’s real needs.”
