Galliard Homes has applied to build 83 properties on land in Colchester.
The housebuilder has set up Port Lane Developments through which it has submitted a detailed planning application to Colchester City Council for the residential development on brownfield land east of Port Lane.
The allocated 2.4-hectare site was previously occupied by MAN Energy which operated an engine build and overhaul facility across a number of commercial and industrial buildings.
A mix of homes of up to three bedrooms is proposed including a 30 per cent proportion of affordable homes.
The team on the project includes Chetwoods on architecture, Asteer on planning and Orion on heritage.
