As the event approaches, we will incorporate initiatives into the event.
SPECIAL AWARD for Best Final Year Undergraduate Development and Planning project at the Henley Business School, University of Reading
As part of their final year, studying for a BSc in Real Estate, University of Reading students worked in teams on a “real-world” project to identify a potential site in the Thames Valley and devise a substantial mixed use development proposal. They took on specialist roles covering land, planning and market analysis, financial viability, design, project management, marketing, and disposal. Students submitted a comprehensive individual specialist report but also presented their scheme to a panel of guests drawn from the industry. About this award:
The need for quality architecture across the County of Berkshire has never had such a high profile. Driven by client expectations and the rigours of the planning process, architects have had to absorb the many challenges thrown at them and produce buildings which not only respect the local vernacular, but also match the expectations of the planners and, of course, client approval. Judges will be looking for architects who can demonstrate a credible track record in the region over a period which will inevitably be spread over a period of years. Documentation needs to include information about the business and examples of past projects as evidence of success. Submitting companies do not have to have an office in Berkshire but the projects submitted do need to be located in the region.

About this award:
The drive towards low carbon is now part of most development briefs in Berkshire. Reflecting the very real changes that are happening in our world, the built environment in the region increasingly needs to reflect these pressures in the approach to new developments, design of buildings and the project process. The proposal needs to showcase a clear strategy and subsequent implementation of a low carbon strategy for the project (or initiative) which is measurable in respect of benefits to the environment. This award could also be entered in one of the other categories and the Judges are sympathetic to the challenges that the pursuit of zero carbon across the built environment.
