Ealing Council is proposing a new regional park in the borough, utilising Perivale Park Golf Course in Greenford, the first in West London.
Councillor Peter Mason, leader of Ealing Council, said: “We know how important green spaces are for our mental and physical wellbeing. So a regional park on our doorstep is an exciting proposition.”
The project is still in the early stages of development, so there is lots of potential for new facilities, such as sports pitches, play spaces or a unique outdoor venue for gigs or plays.
Councillor Mason continued: “We know that local people know best about their neighbourhoods, so we want to know what you want to see as part of a new park. What will bring you the most joy and mean that you and your family can get the most enjoyment out of a big new green space in Ealing?”
The council believes Ealing’s regional park could be as transformative for West London as the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has been for East London. A large new green space in the borough will also help improve climate resilience by improving drainage, preventing flooding, providing more shade, and cleaning up the air we breathe.
Councillor Deirdre Costigan, council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for climate action, said: “We have planted thousands of trees in the borough and opened new parks and community growing spaces, but we are really ramping up our drive to net zero and to tackling the climate crisis with our plans for a regional park.
“A park of this size in Ealing will be a game changer, acting as a new green lung for London whilst improving air quality for generations to come. It will be a place for people to get active, whether it’s walking, running, cycling or scooting, to connect with nature, enjoy wildlife and breathe fresh air.”
The council wants everyone in the borough to be part of this hugely exciting journey.
