Plans have been submitted for up to 114 homes on a 6.02-hectare site at Hanwell Fields in Banbury.

Manor Oak Homes has applied to Cherwell District Council to develop the second phase of its scheme which has been through a series of revisions since an initial plan for 176 units was withdrawn.

The housebuilder’s initial 2022 plan had been recommended for refusal but withdrawn before it reached the planning committee.

A subsequent proposal for 117 homes, later revised to 114, was refused, but an application for 78 on a neighbouring site (phase one) was approved.

Now Manor Oak Homes is proposing a new scheme of up to 114 homes, which represents phase two of the scheme.

The new plans present a range of sizes, types and tenures and a 30-plus per cent proportion of affordable homes is proposed.

The application’s planning statement by Armstrong Rigg states: “As with the permitted first phase of development it is the intention of the applicant to deliver a sensitively designed residential development that would respect the landscape setting of the site whilst forming a natural extension to the built-up area of Banbury.

“The proposal will serve as a natural extension to the 78-dwelling first phase and will present a similar form of development consisting of a variety of development parcels all accessible from a main spine road which would gently curve and climb with the contours.”

The team on the project also includes Thrive Architects and MAC Consulting on transport.
