Plans have been submitted to demolish a Victorian school and replace it with a modern special needs one.

Tilbury Douglas has applied to Vale of White Horse District Council for full planning permission to demolish the former Faringdon Infant School building in Lechlade Road, Faringdon and replace it with the new SEND school for those with special educational needs and disabilities aged six to 18.

The Lechlade Road building closed in 2022 after 150 years as a school.

The new SEND school will accommodate 104 pupils and 60 staff. The two-storey building will have ground and air source heat pumps and there will be a games court and car and cycle parking in the grounds, along with alterations to the access.

The team on the project includes Gillings as planning consultant, ArchitecturePLB as architect, TerraFirma as landscape architect, Scott White & Hookins on civil engineering and transport and Tilbury Douglas Construction as contractor.
