Extensive restoration work on the exterior of Colchester’s Grade I-listed Hollytrees Museum has been completed.

The carefully restored roof, windows, doors, and exterior features of the cultural landmark are now on full display once again.

The work, funded through the Arts Council’s MEND (Museum Estate and Development Fund) programme, included the replacement of coping stones, with materials sourced to blend seamlessly with the original structure.

Cllr Natalie Sommers, portfolio holder for communities, heritage and public protection, said: “Hollytrees Museum is one of Colchester’s most iconic buildings, and we are absolutely delighted with how it looks following the restoration. The exceptional craftsmanship has preserved the building’s Georgian character while ensuring its future as a centrepiece of our cultural heritage.

“We are incredibly grateful to Arts Council England and DCMS for their funding, which has made this restoration possible.”
