Housebuilder The Hill Group has officially broken ground on a development in Billericay, which will deliver 179 homes on a 20-acre site.

Homes at the scheme in Kennel Lane near the town centre will be set around an expansive park that will serve as the green hub of the neighbourhood.

The development, of one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses, is expected to deliver more than double the biodiversity gain required by planning regulations.

Its mixed-tenure options include private sale, affordable rent, and shared ownership. The first homes are set to go on sale in late 2025.

Each home will be equipped with air-source heat pumps and provisions for electric vehicle charging. Every property will have designated parking, cycle storage, and private outdoor space, from gardens to terraces.

Infrastructure improvements include a new cycle path, upgraded roads and enhanced local footpaths.

Andy Hill, founder and chief executive of The Hill Group, said: “We are delighted that work is now underway in Billericay to deliver this new community of homes, which has been shaped by the needs and aspirations of local people. We were able to secure swift planning approval, and we’re excited to start delivering much-needed homes to the area.

“The development brings together all the essential elements for building a successful community – high-quality homes, green open spaces, strong transport links, and eco-friendly design.”
