Councillors in Cherwell district have approved plans for 280,000 sq m of logistics space while refusing plans for a further 300,000 sq m nearby.
In a five-hour meeting the council’s planning committee approved Albion Land’s outline plan ((pictured) to develop two parcels of land, totalling more than 68 hectares close to J10 of the M40.
The sites, both south of the B4100, are either side of the A43 and were dealt with as two separate applications. The western parcel of 43.9 hectares will accommodate 170,000 sq m while the eastern parcel of 23.18 hectares will accommodate the remainder.
A third application for access was approved.
However Tritax Symmetry’s plan for 300,000 sq m of logistics space on 83.28 hectares close to the A43, accessed from the B4100 and also close to J10 of the M40, was refused due to its visual impact.
The Albion Land scheme led to procedural confusion among members after a motion to approve the scheme was voted down.
Some had assumed that meant the application was refused but it was eventually established with legal help, and input from chair Cllr Barry Wood, that a vote had to be taken on the officers’ recommendation which was to approve the scheme.
That vote led to approval.
