Northcroft Leisure Centre in Newbury is set for a major overhaul thanks to a £4.6 million investment from West Berkshire Council.

The refurbished centre, which is managed by Everyone Active in partnership with the council, will have:

  • A larger gym with top-of-the-range equipment
  • A new cycle studio
  • Dedicated gym changing rooms
  • A larger and improved soft play area
  • A new café
  • An improved look throughout

The works are expected to start in September with completion expected in June 2025. The gym will be the first to be refurbished and is expected to reopen in early 2025.

Richard May, contract manager for Everyone Active, said: “We are so grateful to West Berkshire Council for their investment in Northcroft Leisure Centre.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to give the centre a new lease of life and not only enhance the current facilities, but also create new offerings that cater to all corners of the community.

“With the refurbishment due to start in September, we intend to keep our customers updated every step of the way, and we hope they are as excited as we are about this project.”

Nigel Foot, West Berkshire’s executive member for culture, leisure, sport and countryside said: “We’re very excited that this project is now underway. Leisure, in all its forms, is vital to individual wellbeing and quality of life.

“We’re pleased to be able to fund this much needed refurbishment as part of our commitment to not only maintaining, but continuously improving and strengthening, our local leisure offer.

“The lido refurbishment has given us a first-class facility at Northcroft and it will be fantastic to complement it with equally impressive enhancements to the main leisure centre building.”

Refurbishments are planned for other leisure centres in West Berkshire, including Kennet Leisure Centre in Thatcham and Hungerford Leisure Centre.
