A £3.8 million 5G Living Lab is to open in Basing View.
Telecoms firm Cellnex and Enterprise M3 LEP have jointly funded the project, working alongside Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. Products, services and applications can be trialled at the lab.
As well as 5G, artificial reality and virtual reality infrastructure will be available. It is expected to create a 5G cluster designed to help create technological development and innovation, support economic growth and job creation and attract inward investment.
The network will be available in early Summer next year although the precise building has not yet been decided. The intention is that the network will provide indoor and outdoor 5G connectivity.
Kathy Slack, chief executive of Enterprise M3, said: “We’ve all had experience of using innovative new digital systems during the pandemic and this new ultra-fast network will enable more businesses in Basing View to build, test, demonstrate and ultimately commercialise new, innovative products, further enhancing Basingstoke’s thriving high-tech economy.”
