Plans have been submitted for more than 80 shipping containers to be placed to offer a temporary shopping space while Anglia Square in Norwich is redeveloped.
The planning application for St Saviours Yard from Meanwhile Creative aims to provide flexible, affordable and practical spaces, tailored to the needs of small businesses, freelancers, traders and creatives.
Cllr Carli Harper, cabinet member for major projects for Norwich City Council, said: “We hope St Saviours Yard will become a go to shopping destination and business hub, while we crack on and redevelop Anglia Square.
“Our ambition is for St Saviours Yard to become a thriving, eclectic shopping and business attraction rivalling similar sites in Shoreditch, Manchester or Bristol.”
The council expects former traders from Anglia Square and new businesses to set up shop at the site in St Magdalen Street car park.
