Chandler Browne Architects has submitted a Design and Access statement to Richmond Council to redevelop 42 High Street Teddington.
The site was a former HSBC Bank Branch, which has been empty for several years and is quite rundown. Previously, AWK architects had visualised a small independent cinema on the site. (Here)
The proposal from Chandler Browne is for a mixed-use redevelopment that will modernise and improve the high street location. The mixture is for three storeys of residential accommodation providing eight units and a ground-floor commercial unit facing the high street. The residential units come with no additional parking and encourage the owners to be car free.
Their stated aim in the document is;
” The proposal has the ambition to rise to the challenge of preserving and enhancing the conservation area, stitching back in a piece of quality townscape where poor fabric and a gap now exists, seeking to build on the tradition of interest and diversity characterising this street.”
The proposal is with Richmond’s desire to use small spaces better in its local plan.
