Plans have been submitted for a charging hub for up to 36 vehicles in Leighton Buzzard.
In its plans to Central Bedfordshire Council, applicant Metalcraft Developments has drawn up the scheme for land off Billington Road, which is currently allocated for employment but also has permission for 27 homes.
The vacant half-acre site has been unused for several years. In its new use it would be in operation 24/7 and rapid chargers would be maintained both remotely and onsite.
Grovebury Asset Management Limited had had planning permission granted for the two-bedroom flats in January 2022 but has not progressed the plans.
