The Richmond Housing Partnership (RHP) has successfully secured approval from the Richmond Planning Committee to redevelop Sheldon House, Cromwell Road, Teddington. 

This redevelopment project is set to bring numerous benefits to the community.

The proposed redevelopment plan includes demolishing a seven-storey residential building and constructing a five-storey residential building. This new building will feature a lift overrun and 27 units, including three wheelchair-accessible units. It will also incorporate cycle storage and refuse/recycling facilities and provide six car parking spaces, including three for disabled individuals and one delivery bay. The plan also includes landscaping, with a dedicated child play space and ecology area.

Sheldon House, owned and managed by RHP, has been a part of the housing stock since its transfer from the Council in 2000. The building currently houses 24 flats has faced significant structural issues, particularly with the roof structure. These issues have made the building’s long-term use unviable. In light of this, RHP has decided to invest in a comprehensive redevelopment of the site to provide new, affordable homes.

One of the councillors greeted the approval with “Good riddance to the old building”.
