Alison Foster, programme director for Building Berkshire Together, joined the Battle & Bunce Talking Property podcast to discuss the future of the Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH).
She explained the two preferred, potential sites which have been identified. But before any possible relocation plans can be progressed, funding will be central.
An independent report on the feasibility of rebuilding on the current site will be submitted to Government by the end of March and Alison told us that by May she hopes to have a clearer idea of the Government’s response.
Any new hospital would have to meet new requirements and that means a third more accommodation will be needed just to maintain current service levels. Technology and wellbeing considerations will also shape the eventual RBH 2.0 which is likely to take around 10 years to become reality and could cost more than £2 billion.
