Plans for up to 800 homes with a primary school, community building and local centre at Kidlington go before councillors on Wednesday (June 6) with a recommendation for approval.

Bellway Homes’ and Christ Church’s outline application to Cherwell District Council proposes the mixed-use scheme, on 45.8 hectares of largely agricultural land at Water Eaton, off the A4165 Oxford Road, close to Oxford Parkway station. The site was acquired by Bellway Homes from Christ Church.

In Wednesday’s agenda, planners say the scheme proposed for the site, which is known as PR6a in the Local Plan, where it is allocated for 690 homes, is ‘acceptable in principle provided it does not adversely impact on the delivery of the policy requirements of the site’.

The two-form entry primary school is planned for the middle of the development with the local centre nearby.

But objections to the scheme include references to the impact on nearby Grade II*-listed St Frideswide Farmhouse, along with a Grade II-listed wall which have been in their agricultural setting since the 16th Century.

Historic England, in its submission, complained the proposed school could be up to three storeys high and too close, causing harm to the heritage building’s significance.

The development, which was planned by Savills, was designed by Urban Design Studio.
