A survey has been launched to get views on a major regeneration opportunity in Watford.

Watford Borough Council is asking residents about what could be done with an area of the High Street between Watford High Street Station and Exchange Road, reaching up to the first entrance to the Atria shopping and dining centre.

The area is seen as a main entrance into the town centre from the south and benefits from proximity to the station, the River Colne and open spaces but the council says it suffers from the position of the ring road.

It wants a more attractive gateway into the centre for pedestrians and cyclists and to make it more vibrant.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “We are committed to investing in our vibrant, accessible, and sustainable town centre, and want to hear what the local community thinks of the area around the lower part of the High Street.

“It is so important that residents shape the future of our town. Together, with private sector investors we can improve this part of the town centre so that it is a more welcoming space that reflects our identity, supports connectivity, and enhances the overall quality of life for residents and visitors alike.”

Cllr Kennedy Rodrigues, portfolio holder for property & resources, said: “Our recent investments in revitalising the town centre, along with Market Street, Queens Road, and King Street underscores our work and investment to ensure the ongoing success of the area.

“Now, we are turning our attention to lower part of the High Street, recognising the importance of continued investment and enhancement to ensure the ongoing vibrancy of our town centre for both present and future generations.”

The survey runs until August 8. Visit surveymonkey.com/r/watford-high-street.
