Stanhope and Bennetts Associates recently secured planning permission from Cambridge City Council for the renewal of Kett House in Cambridge.
The redevelopment comprises a 160,000 sq ft, eight-storey, best-in-class office building. Kett House is situated within the CB1 business district. The building will feature a hybrid timber and steel frame with stone façades, whilst the wider scheme will achieve a 20 per cent biodiversity net gain (BNG).
David Dawson, associate at Bennetts Associates, said: “Using the very simplest of forms, we’ve created a building that is not only sympathetic to its surroundings but will also provide a benchmark for sustainable office buildings outside London.
“From the hybrid timber structure, low-carbon ground-loaded stone façade to integrated water, energy and biodiversity plans we have aimed to deliver an economic and resourceful building designed to last, while creating a high quality, flexible and contextual building that supports wellbeing and strengthens the public realm.”
The Kett Oak sculpture, a local landmark that honours the family of Robert Kett who led a rebellion in 1549, will be reinstated.
Laura Collins, senior development director at Stanhope, said: “Kett House is the latest example of how we are bringing forward best-in-class, innovative office developments whilst ensuring they remain part of the local community fabric.
“Bennetts Associates’ vision for the property is one step closer to becoming a reality and we look forward to delivering on the next stage of the development programme,” she said.
CBRE Investment Management were the fund managers and Bidwells provided planning advice.
