Opposition is building to plans to replace a Surrey golf course with up to 650 homes.
Quinn Estates has applied to Woking Borough Council for outline planning permission to build the homes along with a 70-bed care home, district centre and open space (including a country park) at 18-hole, Sutton Green Golf Course.
The proposals for a mix of one and two-bedroom flats and houses of up to five bedrooms include a 50 per cent proportion of affordable homes.
Objections increase
But more than 100 objections have been submitted since the application went live at the end of January, largely related to traffic and infrastructure concerns and whether the 41-hectare Green Belt site can be considered Grey Belt.
Objections include one from Eleanor McDonald, resident of Lee Place, a Grade II-listed former farmhouse at the centre of the land.
Along with Green Belt, brownfield-first policy, disruption and privacy concerns she pointed to heritage, stating: “The proposal would wholly encircle our Grade II-listed 17th-century farmhouse, severing its historic relationship with its open land and eroding the openness that defines its setting.
“This represents unjustified heritage harm to which great weight must be given. Please refuse this application to protect the integrity of the Green Belt and our village.”
The team on the project includes Ecologia as site investigation consultant, Iceni on planning, Clague Architects and Charles & Associates Consulting Engineers on highways.
