AstraZeneca, the global biopharmaceutical business, has secured planning permission for a significant new conference centre and office hub at Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Cambridge City Council approved the six-storey building which will be on Francis Crick Avenue and accommodate as many as 736 employees. Along with office space, the plans feature a 450-seat auditorium, a 200-person conference centre and a 110-cover restaurant.

Currently a temporary car park, the 2.2-hectare site lies 150 metres from the planned Cambridge South station. The new conference centre will be a stone’s throw from AstraZeneca’s headquarters which was shortlisted for the Stirling Prize. Therefore, the move is part of the pharma giant’s long-term strategy to consolidate its Cambridge operations.

Bidwells supported with planning, Gillespies as landscape architects, Herzog & de Meuron led the masterplan and Jestico + Whiles prepared the designs.
