Property developer SevenCapital has confirmed it has now signed an agreement with leisure operator and charitable social enterprise GLL for the running of a restored Oasis leisure centre in Swindon.

GLL, who previously managed the Oasis before it was closed in 2020 due to lack of viability, has now entered into a contract following the approval of refurbishment plans in 2024,

SevenCapital also applied to build eight blocks of flats with approximately 707 dwellings, but this was refused, leading to GLL now focusing commitments to restoring and delivering a new, improved facility at the currently grade II listed Oasis.

There are no current projections for when the centre will reopen, but the agreement signals progress after years of disuse.

Damien Siviter, group managing director at SevenCapital, said: “This agreement marks a big step forward in our plans to restore and reopen the Oasis. There is still a lot of work to do, however securing an operator is a critical detail in the process of moving forward.

“SevenCapital remains committed to the revitalisation of this iconic community venue and we continue to work hard to bring these plans to fruition.”

Peter Bundey, chief executive at GLL, said: “Signing this agreement with SevenCapital is a significant step forward for community leisure facilities in the town.

“We understand how important the Oasis is to local residents, and we’re delighted to play a key role in its revitalisation and long-term success.”
