At a cabinet meeting last Tuesday, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) approved in principle Maidenhead United’s proposed disposal of land at the Braywick Park site.
This approval marks significant progress, however the Magpies are still a way off from their dreams of a new 5,000-person stadium, as a 999-year lease for the land still needs to be finalised.
The lease saw its first consultation in March, that established commitments the club must now uphold, such as improving biodiversity, access, and investment in other facilities at Braywick, such as the athletic track.
Despite these agreements now allowing for progress, the lease must still be agreed- which has faced 148 objections over two consultations, mostly relating to loss of open space, as well as traffic and nature impacts. The clubs planning application must also see approval before works can begin at Braywick.

Peter Griffin, chairman at Maidenhead United, released a statement on the clubs website, he described the news as: “A really positive milestone for the club”, and allowed the club to: “Move forward with confidence. He also said: “There’s still a journey ahead”, and urged supporters to: “Show your support for the plans” during the planning process.
