Cheltenham’s drivers now have access to more EV charging, as Duracell E-Charge opens its second site locally at St James’ Street Car Park.

The new location, run by Cheltenham Borough Council, forms part of the Duracell E-Charge network, designed to make EV charging easy to find, simple to use, and reliable. The company also has an EV charging point at Bath Terrace Car Park, Cheltenham.

With ultra-rapid chargers powered by 100 per cent renewable energy, the site offers access for local residents, commuters, and visitors travelling through the area.

St James’ Streets new site strengthens charging provision in a location seeing growing demand from EV drivers, helping to reduce waiting times and improve access to dependable high-speed charging infrastructure in the town.

Drivers using the Duracell E-Charge app benefit from a discounted rate of 80p/kWh, while ad-hoc users can charge at 85p/kWh.

Cllr Richard Pineger, cabinet member for climate emergency, said: “Most of us will be driving electric vehicles in the years ahead, so it’s important that we have a range of ways to charge them wherever we are.

“This new hub, delivered at no cost to the taxpayer, provides ultra-rapid charging for people who need to get back on the road quickly.

“These chargers are especially useful for visitors to Cheltenham, helping to attract people into our town centre, shops and cafés while they charge, which is good news for the high street.

“For residents who can’t charge at home, we’re also making lower-cost charging options available for everyday use, which should give you the confidence to make the switch when the time is right for you.”
