Construction work on new transport facilities at Lovelinch Gardens, Long Ashton, is set to begin on 1 September with completion expected for mid-October.

The project is part of North Somerset Council’s investment in public transport infrastructure and aims to improve accessibility, passenger facilities and the environment for those using the area and travelling by bus.

The scheme will include:

  • A new bus shelter at the corner of Lovelinch Gardens
  • Real-time passenger information displays
  • New dropped kerbs to improve accessibility
  • Infill of the existing lay-by
  • New planters and landscaping features
  • Realignment of the footway to better accommodate pedestrians and public transport users

Access to all properties will be maintained throughout the construction period.

North Somerset Council has been working closely with Long Ashton Parish Council and local ward members. The contractor will continue to liaise with local businesses and residents throughout the works to minimise disruption and ensure access is maintained.

As part of the wider improvements, a number of parking restrictions will also be introduced in and around Long Ashton. These measures have been developed following extensive engagement and consultation with residents, businesses and other stakeholders and have been agreed by Long Ashton Parish Council.

The proposed restrictions are aimed at making roads safer, helping buses run more reliably, ensuring emergency services and larger vehicles can get through when needed, and keeping traffic moving more smoothly through the village.

Comments

Cllr Hugh Malyan, cabinet member for highways and transport at North Somerset Council, said: “This scheme will improve facilities for bus passengers in Long Ashton and help support more reliable public transport services.

“I’d like to thank residents, businesses, Long Ashton Parish Council and local ward members for their engagement throughout the consultation process, which has helped shape the final proposals.”
