Woking Borough Council approved planning permission for a 50-seat spectator stand at Woking College’s existing football pitch on Ryden’s Way, Old Woking.
The proposal, submitted by Mr Sam Loxton and handled by officer Matthew Lambert, was referred to Planning Committee because the council has a lease interest in the football pitch and clubhouse.
The stand will include wheelchair space and measure up to 3.6 metres high, 7.0 metres wide, and 3.0 metres deep, and will be positioned on an existing hard surface at the southern end of the pitch.
The sports pitch is part of the wider college campus and consists of a large artificial grass football field of about 0.9 hectares, with an uncovered spectator area already in place. Nearby uses include the college buildings to the west, St John the Baptist School to the north, and residential properties to the south and east beyond other playing fields.
The site lies within the Green Belt, Flood Zone 2, Woodland Tree Preservation Order land, and the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area zone.
Planning officers recommended approval subject to conditions.
The development is separate from the larger Woking Football Club stadium and housing proposals at Kingfield and instead links to earlier college sports improvements, including a 3G pitch and pavilion project.
