Five affordable homes are now being prepared on the site of former garages in Biddenden Close, Langney, Eastbourne.

Eastbourne Community Land Trust (ECLT) is delivering the scheme, and Eastbourne Borough Council is managing it, with construction enabled by grant funding secured with the council’s support. After ECLT’s 2023 tender process, the council worked with contractor OSM, legal representatives and the employer’s agent to complete the contract and start work.

The development will provide five affordable rent homes: three three-bedroom houses and two two-bedroom houses. It will also include parking, improved access and landscaping.

Each home is designed to be energy-efficient, featuring an air source heat pump, an electric vehicle charging point and a four-panel solar PV system to help reduce household bills and carbon emissions.

Councillor Peter Diplock said the project is an important example of partnership working and will deliver much-needed homes for local people. Sandy Medway of ECLT said the scheme reflects the organisation’s goal of creating genuinely affordable homes that remain a community asset for future generations.

Completion is expected in summer 2027.
