A partner is being sought to help regenerate Colchester’s oldest building.

Grade I-listed Holy Trinity Church is to undergo a £2.8 million transformation by 2026, helped by £147,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.An arts, heritage, community or volunteer sector partner is now needed to take the lead in envisioning sustainable uses for the building.

Applicants are required to show creative and imaginative uses of the space, but fully worked up plans are not yet required.Cllr Natalie Sommers, portfolio holder for communities, said: “The Saxon Tower of Holy Trinity Church, which dates to the 11th Century, is an integral part of our city’s history.

“We are eager to see what potential partners bring to the table in terms of ideas for the building’s use – whether that be through community focused activities, performances, or innovative projects that we haven’t even envisioned yet.

The Holy Trinity Church project is part of a broader ambition involving 15 regeneration projects that aim to revitalise Colchester City Centre by 2030.
