Consultation has begun over the work of six councils for a strategic plan across Hertfordshire.

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC) is working with Broxbourne Borough Council, North Hertfordshire District Council, Stevenage Borough Council, East Hertfordshire District Council and Hertfordshire County Council on its Vision 2050 document.

The authorities have finalised a shared vision, setting out the aspirations for the area up to 2050 based around six key themes.

The vision aims to support cross-boundary, planning and strategic growth options that address climate change, environment, infrastructure, housing, and employment.

The councils believe that by working together, they we will be in a stronger position to deliver and fund essential facilities such as transport, schools, health and utilities like water and sewerage.

Each district and borough council will still be responsible for preparing their own Local Plan, but the preparation of a strategic plan is seen as  important for setting the framework and shared priorities across North, East and Central Hertfordshire.

Cllr Rose Grewal, executive member for planning for WHBC, said: “I am delighted that we are working with colleagues from other councils on the development of a strategic plan for North, East and Central Hertfordshire.

“In jointly preparing and consulting on a shared vision at this early stage, we hope to gain a deeper understanding of the priorities of our residents and stakeholders, in Welwyn Hatfield and across NEC Herts as a whole. I encourage everyone to consider the document and share their views.”

The consultation opened on December 13 and runs until January 31.
