In a boost for affordable retirement living in the Borough of Harrow, Barratt London, alongside its Joint Venture partner The Hyde Group, has officially handed over Klute Apartments to Octavia Living at Eastman Village.

Representatives from Barratt London, The Hyde Group, and Octavia Living attended a ceremony to celebrate the occasion.

The Borough of Harrow’s population has grown rapidly in the last decade—in 2021, Harrow was home to 261,200 people compared with 239,100 residents in 2011. At the last census, the area was among the top ten per cent of the most densely populated English local authority areas. New homes have a vital role in addressing the lack of housing supply to keep up with the area’s growing and ageing population.

Located on the site of the former Kodak film factory, Eastman Village is a joint venture between Barratt London and The Hyde Group. It is part of a larger £1.75bn regeneration project in Harrow that will include two new schools, 3,000 jobs, shops, leisure facilities, and commercial space.

Over 800 homes at the development are occupied, with a 50 per cent split between affordable homes (encompassing Shared Ownership, Affordable Rent, and senior Living) and privately sold homes. The latest building will bring 60 homes specifically for those over 55.

Craig Carson, managing director at Barratt West London comments: ‘We are committed to building high quality homes that benefit all – from first time buyers through to those rightsizing. It’s great to see the site growing into a true community, with all ages living side by side, as more residents call it home.’

Neil McCarthy, assistant director of Customer and Communities at Octavia Living, comments: ‘Following a successful partnership with the London Borough of Harrow and Barratt London to develop a new flagship 60-unit Extra Care scheme, Octavia is pleased to be working with Creative Support to welcome new older residents into the scheme.’

Steven Morrice, development and sales director at The Hyde Group, added: ‘It’s great to see the community really taking shape. At Hyde, we have a commitment to building communities fit for everyone, and it’s great to work with Barratt and Octavia, who share these values.’
