The Rosalind Franklin Institute has become founding member of a pioneering new laboratory development for emerging biotech companies.
CO:LABS, a 120,000 sq ft lab development at the Harwell Campus, opens next year, will seek to foster innovation and help scale new biotech ventures.
The Franklin, which is funded by the UK Research and Innovation’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, will support start-ups at CO:LABS scientifically and commercially.
Through the partnership, the Franklin will: deliver seminars and workshops, provide coaching, share expertise and research, and provide guidance.
Stuart Grant, chief executive of Harwell Campus, said: “Welcoming the Franklin as our first founding member is a milestone moment for CO:LABS.
“Successfully scaling a new biotech is ferociously challenging, it’s essential that we build an ecosystem that provides the right level of support to help innovators succeed.
“The Franklin’s commitment to mentoring and knowledge sharing will be invaluable in equipping our startups with the expertise and insights needed to scale and commercialise their innovations.”
Professor Paul Matthews director of the Franklin said: “Supporting the next generation of biotech entrepreneurs is central to the Franklin’s mission. We are excited to be able to apply our expertise and resources to acceleration of innovation in the life sciences sector through this partnership.”
Facilities at CO:LABS will include a café, lecture theatre, pitch rooms, fitted and serviced laboratory space with write-up and office space, supported by an onsite lab manager.
