Wandsworth Council has unveiled its new Growth Plan, a strategic blueprint aimed at boosting the local economy by leveraging real assets, robust transport links, and educational institutions.

The plan was launched by Simon Hogg, leader of Wandsworth Council, alongside Howard Dawber, London’s deputy mayor of business and growth, and Fleur Anderson MP. The initiative focuses on fostering economic, social, and environmental outcomes through collaboration with partners, supporting the development of affordable homes, local jobs, and neighbourhood investments.

The Growth Plan emphasises a place-based approach, integrating growth with housing, health, and environmental considerations to meet the aspirations of Wandsworth’s residents. It outlines a vision for the borough’s future, highlighting three key themes: people first, placemaking, and inclusive growth. This approach aims to create a creative, connected, and compassionate community.

A significant feature of the plan is the Clapham Junction Growth Corridor, a strategically vital area extending from central London through Battersea and Nine Elms to Clapham Junction and Wandsworth Town. As the UK’s busiest interchange, Clapham Junction is central to this corridor, which is expected to deliver new homes, jobs, and public realm improvements. The corridor will enhance transport links and unlock land for future development, fostering vibrant, connected communities.

Simon Hogg emphasised the plan’s focus on inclusive growth, stating that it aims to benefit everyone in Wandsworth, from young job seekers to families needing secure housing. He highlighted Wandsworth’s readiness to contribute to London’s growth story, with a new growth corridor connecting the borough to central London.

Howard Dawber expressed support for the plan, noting Wandsworth’s role in promoting inclusive and sustainable growth across London. The Growth Plan aligns with the Mayor of London’s London Growth Plan, recognising Wandsworth as a key area for housing, infrastructure, and economic development.

Recently, Simon Hogg and Jenny Yates, cabinet member for transport, welcomed London’s Walking & Cycling Commissioner Will Norman and TfL to Wandsworth to engage the community in shaping the future of Wandsworth Town Centre. Residents and workers are encouraged to share their experiences and needs for the area’s future development.
