Somerset Council’s planning committee north has approved Persimmon Homes Severn Valley’s hybrid application for 323 homes near Bridgwater.
The planning committee voted in favour of the scheme, with full permission granted for 111 homes as part of the first phase.
The site is situated two kilometres west of Bridgwater off Quantock Road and is currently used as agricultural land.
An additional outline permission for up to a further 212 homes was granted, with all matters reserved.
The scheme will comprise of a mixture of two, three and four-bed houses, with 10 per cent reserved for a local housing association.
Planning conditions require Persimmon to make financial contributions for the area, including £2 million for education services, £479,000 towards off-site highway improvements and £22,250 for a neighbourhood centre to be delivered as part of the plan.
A Community Infrastructure Levy payment of £514,171 will be made as part of the first phase, and a further £1,016,69 should Phase Two receive full permission.
