A planning application for 820 flats in Reading has been disposed of by the council because the applicant has failed to pursue it.
Aberdeen, represented by Montagu Evans, applied to build its Kings Meadow View scheme at Forbury Retail Park in 2023. It comprised 12 blocks of flats, up to 5,500 sq m of commercial space and up to 200 basement parking spaces.
The scheme had been amended from original proposals which envisaged up to 900 flats and between 2,000 and 2,500 sq m of commercial space.
But after months in which little has happened and the scheme’s dedicated website has been taken down, the council has written to Montagu Evans noting the application’s lack of progress and stating that the last extension of time for determination expired on April 30.
The letter goes on: “The application has been effectively dormant for over six months now and no known attempt has been made by yourselves to appeal to the Secretary of State on the grounds of non-determination within the prescribed timescale.
“It has therefore become clear to officers that there is no prospect of the above application being brought to a state where your Client will be in a position to secure permission.
“In accordance with Article 40(13) of the Town and Country Planning (Development Management Procedure) Order 2015, please take this letter as formal confirmation that the Council has now Finally Disposed of your planning application.
“Should you wish to pursue a proposed development, you would now need to make a fresh application to the Local Planning Authority.”
Aberdeen declined to comment.

Meanwhile a separate development of flats close to the Aberdeen scheme is progressing.
Perevil Securities and Sladen Estates’ proposal for 570 flats in Napier Court has gone through a series of minor amendments. Those include reducing the number of units from 576 and the tallest building from 12 storeys to 11.
