Amazon has been revealed to be the occupier which has taken McKay Securities’ 135 Theale Logistics Park.
Costar News has reported that the online retailer is the, previously unnamed, occupier behind the letting of the entire 134, 430 sq ft warehouse, that was announced in September.
The site, close to J12 of the M4 and next to Arlington Business Park, was acquired by McKay in 2015 and a previous building demolished and replaced with the new development which completed in April 2020.
Neil Seager, partner at Haslams who advised McKay on the purchase and subsequent letting, said: “It was a pleasure working with the team at McKay from the time of the asset purchase in 2015, through to this important letting for the region.
“Their decision to speculatively develop the unit has certainly been vindicated. It also underpins Greater Reading as a key location for the distribution supply chain.
“Whilst Covid-19 remains a challenge for the property market, the shining light remains industrial and warehouse units. If anything, Covid-19 has accelerated demand particularly from the logistics sector.”
Amazon, which has also pre-let a massive new warehouse in Swindon, said last month it would create a further 7,000 UK jobs this year to meet growing demand, taking its permanent UK workforce to 40,000.
