Gloucester City Council has commissioned urban design specialists Prior + Partners to create the City Centre Masterplan.
Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), the plan will provide a framework for sustainable growth, regeneration and investment in the city over the next 25 years.
Prior + Partners were appointed following a competitive procurement process under the Homes England framework.
The masterplanning specialist was praised for its ‘proven expertise in delivering complex urban strategies, innovative data-driven approach, strong stakeholder engagement methodology, and commitment to social value.’
The London-based practice has provided masterplans to Bristol Temple Quarter, Luton Borough Council and Aylesbury Vale District Council.
Gloucester City Council has received £1.97m from the UKSPF to date, after the council submitted an investment plan identifying the challenges and opportunities facing the city.
Councillor Jeremy Hilton, leader of Gloucester City Council, said: “This masterplan is about creating a thriving city centre for the 21st century and well beyond.
“We’ll be looking at the city as a whole, including lower Eastgate Street area and Northgate Street, which we realise need particular attention.”
The completed masterplan is expected to be published in the new year.

At first, I doubted whether it could offer anything different. Yet the atmosphere pulled me in, with smooth navigation and engaging surprises. The moment I encountered royal fortune, popular among savvy British players, my skepticism faded, replaced by excitement. It proved me wrong in the best way, and I’m glad I gave it a chance.
