Bell Philps Architects, on behalf of the Brent Community Land Trust (CLT), has submitted plans to Brent Council to transform a former garage on Brentfield Road, NW10, into a 19-home social housing scheme.
This initiative, supported by community panels and technical experts, aims to develop affordable housing through community-led efforts. In May 2023, Brent Council agreed to transfer the land to Brent CLT, marking a significant step in the project.
Consultations were held in July 2025 to gather community feedback on initial proposals. An online survey complemented these sessions for broader participation. By November 2025, further consultations at Brent Hub showcased updated designs, incorporating community input. The project received an extension from Brent Council in April 2025, allowing development to continue until March 2026, reflecting confidence in the community-driven vision.
The design emphasises sustainability and local integration, using brick as the primary material to match surrounding buildings. Features like angled balustrades and external roller shutters aim to enhance privacy and energy efficiency. Brent CLT is committed to creating affordable, sustainable, and inclusive housing to address the high demand for affordable homes in Brent, where market rents exceed Local Housing Allowance rates.
The Brentfield Road Scheme exemplifies the potential of strategic partnerships and grassroots involvement in reshaping housing. Brent CLT’s approach focuses on long-term sustainability, ensuring secure, adaptable, and environmentally friendly living spaces. The project also emphasises inclusivity, reflecting Brent’s diverse population.
