Brent Council’s Cabinet has approved plans for a new Health and Wellbeing Hub in Cricklewood and Willesden Green, pending planning permission.
This initiative aims to address health inequalities and support local regeneration by providing a modern health centre, community spaces, and wellbeing amenities. The Hub will replace the Gladstone Park Youth and Community Centre, which is too costly to repair, transforming the site into a sustainable community asset.
The project will unlock up to £2.97 million in Strategic Community Infrastructure Levy (SCIL) funding, which is raised from new developments in the borough. Councillor Teo Benea, cabinet member for regeneration, planning and property, expressed satisfaction with securing the funding, highlighting the investment’s potential to improve access to care services, create training opportunities, support healthier lifestyles, and enhance the local environment.
Dr. Muhammad Najim, lead GP at Willesden Green Surgery and NHS Brent Clinical director for health inequalities, emphasized that the Hub will not only serve as a new home for the surgery but also offer hospital-level treatments, bringing specialist care closer to residents and advancing the NHS neighbourhood model. The building is designed to be the most sustainable, lowest-carbon healthcare facility in NHS North West London.
The Hub will feature an outdoor plaza, waiting-room café, on-site pharmacy, and a large community hall. Additional facilities like a padel court, community garden, and wellbeing studios will promote physical activity, social connection, and preventative care. The project is a collaborative effort with local community groups, Brent Council, and NHS North West London ICB.
Overall, the Health and Wellbeing Integrated Hub will transform the underutilized Gladstone Park Youth and Community Centre site into a modern, sustainable space for health, community, and wellbeing services, offering new GP and primary care facilities, a community pharmacy, and flexible spaces for local activities and sports.
