An ambitious new charity superstore is to open in Reading.

Thames Hospice will close its shop in Church Street, Caversham on July 19 ahead of the September opening of its first superstore at the former Fun ‘n Frolics unit at 16 Richfield Avenue.

Fit out is currently under way to create what the charity calls an ‘emporium-like’ store, which will be its largest yet. As well as clothes it will sell furniture and have a large toys and games section and a cafe. It will also incorporate its Home Studio which will offer workshops for customers as well as clothing alterations.

Eventually a repair shop is planned.

Julie Rowley, director of retail at Thames Hospice, said: “Our superstore will lead the way in sustainable charity shopping on the grandest of scales.

“It will bring together a vast selection of preloved clothes for all, vintage treasures, books and children’s toys, furniture, upcycling services, and a welcoming café all under one roof.

“We really have put a lot of thought into ensuring our customers have the best shopping experience at our new superstore, including ample parking onsite, as well as a café serving a delicious selection of beverages and light refreshments.”
