Consultation has begun over Harwell Science and Innovation Campus’ vision for the next 20 years.
Harwell has grown by more than one million sq ft since 2020 and a further four million sq ft is planned in its Government-backed masterplan.
The campus team is seeking feedback on how Harwell’s future growth can best respond to local priorities and support regional and national innovation ambitions which will take it up to its centenary.
The consultation will explore:
- How Harwell can evolve
- The types of employment space, facilities and services required for the next 20 years
- How future development can enhance placemaking, accessibility and sustainability
- How it can strengthen ties with the community
Jim Stretton, managing director of Harwell Campus, said: “Harwell has played a central role in British science for more than eight decades. As we plan for the next 20 years and look ahead to our centenary, it’s essential that our growth continues to reflect both our national mission and the aspirations of our local communities.
“Our public engagement is a vital opportunity to listen, get involved and shape Harwell’s future together.”
Neale Coleman, chair of the Oxford Growth Commission, said: “Harwell Campus is already a cornerstone of Oxfordshire’s innovation economy and getting its long-term vision right matters for the whole region.
“This consultation is an important step in ensuring the campus continues to attract investment, talent and collaboration at the scale needed to drive sustainable growth across Oxford and beyond.”
