A development of 186 homes is to be Hertsmere Borough Council’s first 100 per cent affordable housing scheme.

The Lyndhurst Farm project in Borehamwood, which will offer a mix of social rent, affordable rent, and shared ownership, was originally going to have an 80 per cent allocation of affordable but, following a grant from Homes England, Thrive Homes has secured the remainder so that all 186 are affordable.

Cllr Nik Oakley, cabinet member for planning, infrastructure and transport for Hertsmere Borough Council, said: “This project is proof of vision and partnership working, and I’m absolutely thrilled that in Hertsmere we can deliver a fabulous ground breaking scheme. 186 Hertsmere residents or their relatives will now have a place to call home through social and affordable rents, and shared ownership.

“This is a momentous day for Hertsmere. For the first time ever, we have secured a development that is a 100 per cent affordable housing – homes designed for local residents, built around community, and delivering fairness for future generations. We promised to put people first, and this scheme shows we mean it.

“This scheme is more than just housing – it’s about giving people security, pride and belonging. It sets a powerful precedent for what we can achieve when we stand firm for our residents.”

The new homes will be supported by a package of community benefits, including:

  • A community hub.
  • Expanded and upgraded allotments.
  • A £550,000 investment in local transport and infrastructure, including improved public transport, cycleways and pedestrian links.
