Plans have been submitted for Farnborough’s new leisure centre.
Rushmoor Borough Council plans to build the new centre along with a 250-metre pool and learner pool on the current Queensmead car park.
It will include a 100-station gym including equipment for the less mobile, studio space, a spin studio, soft play and a café. It will be served by the neighbouring Pinehurst car park site.
Consultation took place during Summer and the final design has been inspired by other modern contemporary buildings in the town, as well as the town’s connections with aviation including the Farnborough International Airshow.
Cllr Sophie Porter, the council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for healthy communities and active lives, said: “This is a significant moment for the project and represents months of work behind the scenes and I am delighted to share the updated designs with everyone.
“We are committed to giving residents back their leisure centre and our proposals also give us a unique opportunity to also rejuvenate the town centre and create a warm and welcoming community space where people can come together to have fun.
“We want to make sure that everyone has local opportunities for exercise, improved wellbeing and social connection and our new leisure will be a key part of this effort offering an affordable and inclusive space for fitness, swimming and recreation.”
The council’s development management committee expects to consider the planning application in the new year. If approved work could begin next Spring.
