Councillors in Bracknell have agreed to support development of 46 affordable homes across two council-owned sites.

Bracknell Forest Council’s cabinet approved the proposal at its October 15 meeting.

It means redevelopment of the council’s old depot site in Old Bracknell Lane West (pictured) for a mix of flats and three and four-bedroom properties. It was also agreed to create an affordable scheme of larger family-sized homes for social rent on a site in Binfield Road.

Both sites will be developed with financial support from the council using money from developer contributions for affordable housing.

The depot site will be taken forward by the Cambium Partnership – of which the council is a partner alongside Countryside Properties.

The Binfield site will be taken forward by an unnamed registered housing provider.

Cllr Helen Purnell, cabinet member for the environment, community and housing, said: “We have consistently said that we need more affordable properties in Bracknell Forest for local families. Likewise, we need more social rented properties so local people can access good quality homes at a lower rent.

“These two sites will offer the opportunity for people to access a range of properties – including larger family homes, which we desperately need, at a genuinely affordable rent.

“This is a big step forward and further demonstrates our commitment to creating safe and affordable places for people to live – which we pledged as a priority in the 2023 to 2027 Council Plan.”
