Discount supermarkets are providing a promising market for developer and Thames Tap partner Jansons Property.

Managing director Andy Jansons told UK Property Forums managing director Matthew Battle, in the latest Ask the Expert video interview, exclusively produced for UK Prop Social members, his firm has promising arrangements with fast expanding Aldi and Lidl.

One site for a new Lidl and 40 affordable homes is planned in Earley and goes out to public consultation on Thursday, January 28.

Mr Jansons said: “We are working with Aldi and Lidl. They are really taking the opportunity – in this difficult market – to put more pressure on the big supermarkets.”

He said they seek long term leases, typically of 15 years and provide strong cashflow and good covenants for institutional investment funds in the market.

Mr Jansons looked at a number of areas of development including Permitted Development Rights schemes, student accommodation, strategic land, hotels and industrial.
