A former Ducati showroom in the South Cambridgeshire village of Harston will be the new home to an expansion of Fitzbillies; the famous bakery based in Cambridge.
The expansion of the 105-year-old Fitzbillies brand will bring together bakery, café and office functions under one roof. The 16,150 sq ft facility will allow customers to see the bakery’s products being made on site. The café will also will create seven new jobs.
Alison Wright, co-owner of Fitzbillies, said: “Harston is the perfect next chapter for Fitzbillies. For years, we’ve wanted to bring our bakers and our customers back under one roof, and this site gives us the space to do exactly that.
“We hope the cafe will become a real hub for the village; somewhere for local people to meet and socialise. We can’t wait to become part of the community.”
BTG Eddisons negotiated the lease on behalf of the landlord. Fitzbillies was represented by Carter Jonas.
Ben Green, director at BTG Eddisons, said: This is a particularly pleasing off-market letting as it gives our client a long term tenant in the highly regarded Fitzbillies. Harston High Street is on the A10 and is a popular commuter route to major Cambridge employment areas such as Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Biomedical Campus, among others.
“Harston is also a bustling, independent village with many amenities and the addition of Fitzbillies to its high street hub should give a real boost to the retail and hospitality profile of the village.”
Ducati moved earlier this year to a purpose-built business park near St Ives.
John Mason, associate in planning and development at Carter Jonas in Cambridge, said: “Carter Jonas’ commercial, building surveying and planning teams are delighted to have assisted Fitzbillies in securing their new site, negotiating a favourable lease and securing a planning consent. We look forward to trying one of their famous Chelsea buns when the new branch opens in the summer.”
